\r\nColorimetric or turbidimetric methods of analysis have been developed for most of the elements and ionic species. These methods can be used to quickly determine the chemical composition of an unknown substance. While conducting the experiments in this lab, students will develop good laboratory procedures for analyzing unknowns. They will learn how to take samples, collect and wash precipitates, perform confirmatory tests, and most importantly, record data. It is also good lab practice to always analyze a known with each unknown as a double check on the reagents being used. Unknowns will be analyzed for one of six possible anions: Cl-, Br-, I-, PO42-, NO3-, and SO42-, and a standard solution for each anion will be run. \r\n All experiments have been prepared and bench tested under the guidance of AP chemistry teachers. Lab includes chemicals, an instructional guide, the appropriate MSDS, and enough materials for fifteen set-ups.
