    Demonstrate the exothermic reaction between potassium permanganate, a strong oxidizing agent, and glycerin, which is easily oxidized. A small amount potassium permanganate is placed in a Petri dish. When a few drops of glycerin are added to the potassium permanganate, the glycerin begins boiling and giving off smoke. After a few seconds, violet flames spread around the pile of potassium permanganate until all the glycerin is consumed. Suitable for a middle school demonstration.\r\n

        25 ml Glycerin \r\n
